I think that they are trying to burn out kids with education these days with the amount and level of homework that they are giving. I am all for raising the bar, however how will a child learn if he hates school. Thankfully my son is not at that point, but many are or will be. 100 minutes of reading, 20 spelling words a week, and lots of math later, they have little if any time to be a kid.
A while back Tyler was working on some of his math work. In second grade they have pre-algebra? After school all day and then homework most of the night Ty was looking to play a bit and so as he was wrapping up his mom asked him if he had started “rounding up”. Tylers response was “What like cows?” Kids need time to be kids.
